cotton
One of the most popular fabrics to use when quilting is cotton because of its versatility in thermal terms; cool enough for summer and warm enough for winter or fall. It is the fabric of choice for most people who constantly keep a vigilant eye for the latest fashion trends as well as for those who are devoted to keeping a safe environment.
The process of getting cotton is the same it has been for centuries though industrialization has made it possible for cotton fabric to be manufactured in a more speedy process. Cotton is a natural fabric that comes from a plan and is the surrounding of the seeds that the plant creates to protect its own progeny. This fluffy and sticky surrounding is separated from the seeds, which are to be planted in a later date, and sent to the processing plant.
In here the boll will be cleaned, carded, spun and woven into the fabric that is of natural colour (a whitish-almost beige colour), then this fabric is dyed to a matching colour. Nonetheless, for specific fabric patterns, the cotton thread, which is the by product that comes out of spinning is dyed though there are plants and cotton fabric manufacturers that prefer to dye it before it is spun so that the colour that will adhere to the cotton will be of an even shade.
Regardless of the process, cotton still occupied half of the world’s demand on fabric as well as cotton by products such as cosmetics, soaps, paint, paper and many other sub products.
